He was predeceased by: his wife Inge; his sons, Bernie Handel and Duane Handel; his grandson Cory Handel; and his parents, Otto Handel and Katharina Handel.

He is survived by: his children, Vern Handel (Julie), Brenda Bailey (David), Ron Handel (Laverna) and Sheldon Handel (Denise). He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
