He was predeceased by : his sons, Frank Cantu, Jr. and Jesse Rangel; his parents, Jose Rios Cantu and Maria Adame Cantu; his siblings, Joe Cantu, Juventina Cantu Martinez and Olivia Balli; and his brother-in-law Lupe Coy.

He is survived by : his children, Dora Cantu, Joseph R. Cantu (Diana), Mary Sue Cantu and Isabel Trujillo (Eddie); his siblings, Ernestina Cantu, Pete Cantu, Justo Cantu (Nancy), Janie Cantu, Catarina Cantu Arredondo (Robert Sr.) and Hopie Cantu; and his brother-in-law Leo Balli. He is also survived by grandchildren, 22 treasured great-grandchildren, and 11 beloved great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Thursday, May 2nd 2024 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Mission Funeral Home - East Side (1615 E Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 78702). A rosary was held on Thursday, May 2nd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 2nd 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at the same location. A committal service was held on Thursday, May 2nd 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Assumption Cemetery (3650 S I-35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78704).
